NCAA Basketball Predictions

The brackets are set for the 2023 NCAA men’s basketball tournament. I will share some of my tips and thought processes I use when filling out my bracket.

If you are looking for that Cinderella story, you will not find it here. I generally focus more trying to get the #8 vs #9 seed games correct. Same with the #10 vs #7 seed games.

 South Region

The Tops Seeds- Alabama, Arizona, Baylor, Virgina

Upset alert- Maryland, Missouri

Best First Round Game- Creighton vs. NC State

How it plays out- I see the top 2 seeds making their way through the competition for a matchup to go to the final 4. Alabama and their highly ranked strength of schedule prove to be too much, and they win the South Region.

East Region

The Tops Seeds- Purdue, Marquette, Kansas State, Tennessee

Upset alert- Michigan State

Best First Round Game- Michigan St. vs USC

How it plays out- A very intriguing bracket in my opinion. There is nothing I am getting excited about in the first round. However, round 2 potential matchup of Purdue vs. Memphis is huge. The winner of that game likely plays the winner of Duke and Tennessee. I think Mike Painter has his team ready and they escape the gauntlet East Region.

West

The Tops Seeds- Kansas, UCLA, Gonzaga, UConn

Upset alert- TCU vs play in winner Nevada or Arizona St.

Best First Round Game- Northwestern vs Boise State

How it plays out- I could see anyone seeded 1 through 5 coming out of the West. The defending national champions Kansas Jayhawks are the favorites. However, I see Gonzaga, who is averaging 87 points a game, upsetting the Jayhawks and earning a berth to the Final Four.

Midwest

The Tops Seeds- Houston, Texas, Xavier, Indiana

Upset alert- Indiana

Best First Round Game- Iowa State vs. Play in winner Mississippi State or Pitt

How it plays out- The number 1 overall seed Houston Cougars will cruise to the Final Four. Texas, Texas Tech, Xaiver, and Iowa State make the bottom portion of the region very entertaining basketball games to watch.

Final Four

If the Purdue Boilermakers are fortunate enough to make it out of the East, they will have Alabama waiting on them. That is where Purdue's season ends, sending Alabama to the championship game.

Houston will be playing their Final Four game Houston. Will they strive being the "home" team? The problem I see is they will be matched up against Gonzaga. Gonzaga has scored over 100 points in a game on 8 occasions.

Championship Game

For the second time this season Gonzaga beats Alabama to win the 2023 national championship. The Bulldogs beat the teams they should have on their regular season schedule and should be poised to make a deep tournament run.
