Hulkenberg and Magnussen’s Performance

  • Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen represented the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team in qualifying.
  • Hulkenberg put in a strong performance, navigating his VF-24 through Q1 on two sets of the red compound tires. His initial lap of 1:30.518 improved on the second run, securing a 1:29.821 and progressing to Q2 in P14.
  • Magnussen, unfortunately, exited qualifying after the opening session. He utilized three sets of Pirelli P Zero Red soft tires but ended up classifying P18 with a fastest time of 1:30.131.
  • Both drivers faced the challenge of a rapidly evolving track and a congested circuit.

Verstappen’s Dominance

  • Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing continued his impressive form, claiming pole position in Q3 with a blistering lap time of 1:28.197.
  • Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Perez, secured the second spot on the grid, while McLaren’s Lando Norris rounded out the top three.

Driver Reactions

  • Nico Hulkenberg: “I’m really happy and very pleased with the performance. They were good, clean laps, and I enjoyed qualifying. Last year, I had a messy session, so this time I was keen to have a clean one. We really exploited the maximum out of our package, even if missing Q3 was marginal for us.”
  • Kevin Magnussen: “We improved the car for qualifying, but we started quite far from where we were with the setup from yesterday. Suzuka isn’t our strongest track, but we’ll certainly be trying to make up ground in the race.”

Team Principal’s Perspective

  • Ayao Komatsu, Team Principal: “Overall, it was a good qualifying session for the team. We made positive set-up changes, and both drivers delivered excellent laps. Considering the challenging conditions at this track, we worked well as a team.”

Looking Ahead

  • With the Japanese Grand Prix race day approaching, the Haas F1 Team aims to capitalize on their qualifying performance and fight for points in the race.

Stay tuned for more updates from the Suzuka Circuit as the battle for supremacy continues in the 2024 FIA Formula 1 World Championship!
