Troublesome Weekend for Haas F1

The Monaco Grand Prix was dominated by Ferarri. Sean Leclrec maneuvered his way throught the streets course with ease. He finished first place ahead of Oscar Piastri and teammate Carlos Sainz to round out the podium positions.

Qualifications

For the Moneygram Haas F1 team, this was a weekend to forget. On Saturday, Nico Hulkenberg qualified 12th, and Keven Magnussen 15th. However, after postrace inspection it was found the uppermost rear wing adjustable plate exceeded the maximum allowance. Therefore, sending both cars to the rear of the field.

Penalty

The stewards noted that Haas was “candid in admitting its error”, and the FIA’s technical team was satisfied with their answers. This was a new high downforce wing where the team was not trained on the new adjustment specifications.

Race

When the field went lights out, an incident between Sergio Perez and Kevin Magnussen caused a red flag. That incident also collected a innocent bystander in Nico Hulkenberg.

Magnussen appeared to have his left front tire past the right rear tire of Sergio Perez. At one point he was even with the "O" in Oracle on the Redbulls sidepod.

In my opinion if both drivers just gave each other more room this incident could have been avoidable. Sergio was already frustrated qualifying in the 18th position. However, I also do not think Magnussen was in a position to make a pass, but Sergio left the door open by his entry into turn 1. He then swept from the left to the prefered racing line, where Magnussen had a wheel equal to his sidepod.

To make the day even worse for Haas, Yuki Tsunoda,  Alex Albon, and Pierre Gasly scored points for teams RB, Williams, and Alpine. All teams that Haas is fighting for in the midfield point battle. This was the first points of the season for Williams.

Haas looks to rebound in two weeks in Canada.
